Is There A Way At All? – Anger Management For Children

Children undergo many physical and mental changes as they grow and their behavioural patterns alter dramatically. Their behaviour is based on different factors such as parents, teachers, peer group and the external factors that they are exposed to, which have a significant influence on the minds of the children. These factors sometimes might have a strong impact on the children’s mind that can trigger negative emotions. Some amount of the emotion anger is present in everyone and generally adults are conditioned to control their temperament under different social conditions better. But in children who are developing strong negative emotions, anger management plays a vital role for them to develop as more emotionally balanced individuals.

Get a punching bag or something else soft that you can hit – If your anger starts to well up and overcome you to the point where you are enraged then you may want to invest or find an inanimate object that you can hit when you become enraged. You don’t have to spend any money on this, a simple pillow will do. If you want a punching bag may work as well or even one of those blow up punching bags that are out there for children.

Think Positive!
Do you know that if people consciously change their habits of what they say to themselves, they can make themselves happier and less inclined to get angry?
This is called Cognitive Restructuring technique — to change the way we think and feel about different things.

Your intentional effort to change thinking negatively and to start thinking positively is a very important side of your fight against anger. Always remind yourself that the world is not “out to get you,” you’re just experiencing some of the rough spots of daily life.
It will not happen overnight but you shouldn’t give up. You will see life is much better when you are used to thinking positively.

Anger management techniques

The foremost technique of anger management for children is unconditional love; calm the child when he/she gets stubborn, irritable or throws tantrums. Do not admonish the child as that might worsen the situation, so give that extra attention, hugs and kisses. Engage the children in some constructive activities; indoor or outdoor games, brain games, video games etc will help the child to channelize their energy into something more meaningful. Brain games specially designed for children will help them to be occupied and enhance their mental health.

Also teach your children the importance of positive emotion such as happiness, love and laughter so that they can realise the effects of negative behaviour. Anger management for children also involves rewarding the child in small ways if they display positive emotions or when they themselves deal with their unpleasant behaviour
